Throwback Thursday: This week in 1997, Edmonton Oilers Curtis Joseph records first back-to-back shutouts in team history

This week in 1997 (Nov. 22), Curtis Joseph recorded back-to-back shutouts to become the first goalie in Edmonton Oilers history to do so.

The first shutout came on Nov. 20 when the Oilers paid a visit to the St. Louis Blues. CuJo stopped all 22 shots he faced as goals from Todd Marchant, Dan McGillis and Doug Weight propelled the Oilers to victory.

Two night later, the Oilers paid visit to the Ottawa Senators where Joseph shut the door again. He stopped 26 shots and Mike Watt’s lone goal gave the Edmonton Oilers a 1-0 victory.

That 1997-98 season marked Joseph’s last in Edmonton as he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July 1998 as a free agent.

Over three seasons in Edmonton, Joseph posted a 76-76-20 record with a .902 save percentage.
