May 6, 1982: The Canucks beat the Blackhawks 6-2 to advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the very first time.
May 6, 2004: Dave Nonis was promoted from his position of assistant general manager to GM after Brian Burke was relieved of his duties. His most noted move is landing Roberto Luongo from Florida for Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen and Alex Auld.

May 9, 2004: Steve Montador scored the biggest goal of his career in OT against the San Jose Sharks:

May 6, 1995: The Winnipeg Jets retired Thomas Steen’s number, making him the first European player to have his number retired by an NHL team.

May 6, 1936: The Leafs bought goaltender Turk Broda for less than $10,000 on this day. He would go on to play every game for seven straight seasons with the Leafs.
May 4, 2004: Remember that time Darcy Tucker obliterated Sami Kapanen? Kapanen doesn’t, I’ll tell you that much:

May 10, 1984: Grant Fuhr earns a 34-save shutout against the New York Islanders for the first Oilers playoff shutout in history.
May 7, 1985: The Oilers beat the Blackhawks for their 12th straight win to set a postseason NHL record for the longest win streak in the playoffs. The Blackhawks would end the streak two days later with a 5-2 win.
May 7, 2017: You’re all going to have to dive way back in your memory banks for this one. Leon Draisaitl scored five points on this night to join the likes of Gretzky (9x), Kurri (3x), Anderson (2x), and Coffey (2x) as the only Oilers to score five or more points in a playoff game.
May 4, 1991: Petr Klima completes the fastest playoff hat trick in Oilers history. He scores three goals against the Minnesota North Stars in just 5:13 in the first period.

May 9, 1999: Scotty Bowman secures an NHL record by becoming the first coach to achieve 200 playoff wins when the Red Wings beat the Avalanche 4-0.
May 9, 1965: A legend was born! Steve Yzerman was born this day in Cranbrook, BC.
