Watch It Again (and again) – Leon scores a beauty

Not much went right last night for the Edmonton Oilers in Toronto. The 6-2 final score was indicative of the Oilers effort from the seventeen-minute mark of the first period onwards. Prior to that, the Oilers were controlling the play and limiting the Leafs chances to the perimeter, and it looked like our boys would going to have themselves an evening. During that first period, the Oilers got a powerplay which produced one of the best singlehanded efforts I have seen by an Oiler not named Connor McDavid. Let’s have a look at Leon Draisaitl’s powerplay tally in more depth.

Connor to Leon

The start to most of the offence in Edmonton begins with these two superstars. This play is no different as Connor comes up the ice before dishing it over to the Oilers leading goal scorer to let him carry the puck into the Leafs’ zone.

Jake Muzzin walked

The Leafs added Jake Muzzin a couple of weeks before the trade deadline for a first round pick and some prospects. He’s probably their best defenceman, but Leon walks around him with ease.

Ron Hainsey dangled

Hainsey is an NHL defenceman but Leon makes him look like he’s just a facade on the ice, dangling through his legs.

Draped by two Leafs, Leon gets a shot

The Leafs somewhat recover from Leon’s speed to have two guys harass him as he works hard to get a puck onto the pads of Freddie Andersen.

Kicks puck to his stick and the into the net

This is where this goal gets really special as Leon kicks the rebound off the initial shot to his stick and then tucks the puck around Andersen’s outstretched pad.
What an effort by Leon as he now sits at 39 goals this season, 11 goals away from being the fifth Edmonton Oiler ever to score 50 in a season.
