We’re Talkin’ Baseball

My friends and fellow citizens, I am here today to tell you about a fresh new partnership that we just hashed out between OilersNation and the Edmonton Prospects. So before you leave a comment about how this is a hockey website just know that I won’t care. This article is not talking about hockey – today we’re talkin’ baseball.
Last weekend, our friends at the Prospects were holding open tryouts to see if they could find a Mark Wahlberg in the rough, and we thought we could help them out with a ringer. As a result, we sent our very own Chris the Intern down to the ol’ ballpark to see if he could muster the skills required to make the team. After shagging some grounders, showing off his gun, and getting in some BP we thought that Chris might have a real chance of making the squad and us ridding ourselves of him forever. Unfortunately, as you saw in the video, his game was lacking but it was not for a lack of effort. Personally, I thought Chris did very well but it just wasn’t his day, ya know? Maybe next year. Until then he’s stuck here with us.
Anyway…

NEW FRIENDS

In case you haven’t heard, or aren’t repping the Y-E-G, the Edmonton Prospects are the local team in the Western Major Baseball League (Canada’s Premier Collegiate Summer League) and we are thrilled to be partnering up with them throughout the summer. With Oilers hockey on the back burner, we wanted to find a local team that we could help support, and jump on their bandwagon. Not to mention, from where I blog, there’s no better place for some summertime hydration binge drinking than at the ol’ ball park while cheering on the Prospects.
If you’ve never been to a baseball game before, or haven’t spent a day at the ballpark in your life, this Prospects season is the perfect time to make it happen. Baseball games are a great time, and unlike what happens at Rexall Place (and soon to be Rogers Place) tickets are priced with families in mind. Basically, what I’m telling you is that taking your kids for a night out won’t result in missed mortgage payments or broken kneecaps from the bookie you’re avoiding. Fun at a reasonable price? How can you say no? All this goes, of course, without even mentioning the fact that you could probably use some sun on your pasty hibernation skin. I mean, look at you… you’re practically translucent.
Tanning opportunities aside, the Prospects have a bunch of cool events planned for the summer (keep an eye on their website), and we’ll be rounding up the troops from Nation HQ to attend as many of them as possible. The Prospects gave us our very own OilersNation box for this season and we plan on taking full advantage. I encourage you to follow our lead and check out the schedule to see which dates work, and keep your eyes peeled for us whenever you’re there because any time we’re heading down to the ballpark we’ll be doing so with all kinds of Nation swag and Oodle Noodle GCs to give away.
OilersNation Night at the Ballpark is coming up on July 9th, and you’ll want to be there so write the date down on your calendar, face, or wherever you’ll remember it. In the meantime, the Prospects’ season opener is coming up tomorrow and you’re all invited to join us for what will (hopefully) be an excellent day for some baseball. Tickets are still available here.
