A quick note on Brossoit. He really has enjoyed a strong start to the season, and there has to be at least some temptation to recall him. I would think it unwise, prevailing wisdom says give him another year, but we’ll see.

Just get rid of lander, ship him down so he can get his MOJO back. In the meantime bring up any center from bakersfield, most likely will play better than Anton.

        • Dwayne Roloson 35

He may get claimed. The thing I don’t like about the Lander hate that has surfaced is that I remember him getting robbed a few times this year. 3 or 4 points as a 4th line center and no one would care right now. At least he’s responsible defensively and wins faceoffs.

I remember Hemsky saying before he left that the team cant expect to switch out 4th line players and hope to be good. The core needs to step up and lead the team.

I guess Lander has become the goat though.

      • Dirtski

I know this is about the A and goalies but. .. I wonder lowetides thoughts on lines to come. Mainly how drai was with poo and yak then returned to nuge and hall when that didn’t work. Yet we seen drai and hall work well last night. Based on proven chemistry shouldn’t three scoring lines look like: nuge-eberle, mcdavid-yak, drai-hall? Each has a nice pivot and a killer winger.

        • Oilerz4life

That’s one scary team. Who do you throw on mcDavid’s line, Korpi, Hendricks, Slepy?

What if the didn’t sign purcell or trade away Pouliot and were able to sign Lucic & Byfuglien? That gives the Oilers an entirely new look, and they become a playoff team overnight imo.

I also think either Shultz or Fayne will be let go/traded at the end of the season.

      • Dirtski

Hey, it’s me again. So I was thinkin that thee oylers shuold trade ebrle befor he losis all his value. Maybe we can get like paranin or evin Patrik Kane on a good day, thougts?

      • Oilerz4life

Usually I would stand up for Talbot, say the defensive side of the team was against him or whatever, but he really let the team down last night. There were some goals that should not have gone in, simple stops that could have kept Edmonton in it. Maybe he should get some conditioning in Bakersfield and LB should be given some time with the big club.

        • Dwayne Roloson 35

          Talbot should be defended.

First one was a little weak and id expect him to have it but it came after the oilers turned it over behind the net. Cant really blame him.

The second one he had no chance, Partial breakaway and then leaving Pearson wide open in the slot.

The third goal, We left Lucic completely alone in front of the net. No chance.

The 4th goal came right at the end of a PP. Shot through a screen.

Brossoit won’t do any better being left out to dry.

      • Heschultzhescores

It might be time to bring the kid up. We can’t give up the weak goals we’ve seen Talbot give on a regular basis. People can blame the defence, but what defence can stop a guy from scoring from the impossible angles? There is no defence for that, other than basic goaltending skills to prevent goals like that. I don’t believe Talbot really made any game-saving stops against L.A. The shot totals were reasonable, the chances were not clean-cut shots from the slot that he had to make great reaction saves to…a couple of the so called “great saves” hit him in the chest, he couldn’t have got out of the way of those shots if he tried. Talbot also is horrible at handling the puck, he put the puck on the L.A sticks for the winning goal…combine that with the super-soft early goal, and that’s pretty much the difference between winning and losing in that game…well, Lander’s bone-head penalty was a contributing factor as well. Let’s also remember that when a goaltender is playing well, the guys in front of him play better as well, and a potential win that suddenly turns into a loss is so demoralizing to a team, it’s really no surprise this team lacks confidence. They expect to lose, you can just see it in the way they play when the game is close. They play great to tie a game up, then lay-off the pedal and sit back defending, hoping for a tie instead of just keep on doing what they’ve been doing to get the game level in the first place.

      • Oilerz4life

Whoa, pump the brakes guys. Call up Brossoit? Let him gain confidence from a solid season in the AHL and tell him at the end of the year to work hard over the summer and come to camp next September and fight for the starting job. There is no sense calling him up to a team that is struggling defensively and wipe out any strides he has made as a pro goalie.

      • Johnnydapunk

It’s a small sample size but look what being patient has done for Nurse and Draisatl, I think the time in the minors have done them quite good. The only time I would bring Broissoit up is near the end of the season just to see how he does with some NHL minutes, this season is a write off so I don’t think he would save the Oil.

Just to be clear, I feel the season is a write off in the sense that playoffs aren’t expected, there’s a few bad contracts that need to come off and when those do, there can be some personnel changes hopefully so they can start having a decent run of things in the coming seasons. I’m sure there is a system being put in place and the team just has to get used to it and this is the season to do it.

Like one other poster had said, maybe bring Khaira up to see how he does, he has size, strength and seems to be having a strong showing in Bakersfield and could be a sleeper surprise as he isn’t mentioned too much.

      • HardBoiledOil 1.0

Khaira for a few games in place of Lander to see how he does is OK by me. like was mentioned, he’s bigger and faster than Lander. i feel it couldn’t hurt?

      • HardBoiledOil 1.0

The Oilers could bring up lots of players for observation. The season is not really over — only virtually.
The problem with callups is the number of new jerseys available for sale. This is a fan headache.
Rather than the who can fill a JERSEY PROGRAM — Change the Four A’s to another four every two games. The only cost is the SEW (SNOW) JOB!

      • Craig1981

I think there is nothing wrong with calling him up got a game and sending him back the next night. If he continues to play hot being him up again, for few more games
