According to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, the Oilers have signed Ty Rattie. He has since tweeted saying the deal is a one-year, two-way deal. His NHL salary will be $700k, while his AHL salary will be $275k.
The 24-year old right shot, right winger just wrapped up his fourth season in the St. Louis Blues organization but has never been able to get traction at the NHL level.
He has played in 34 NHL games with the Blues and Hurricanes where he has scored four goals and six assists for 10 points.
His money has been made in the AHL, where he has scored 141 points in 215 games.
The Oilers lost Tyler Pitlick to the Dallas Stars on a 3-year, $3 million deal so Rattie will effectively replace him in the AHL/NHL role.
He was drafted by the Blues in the second round in 2011.
Rattie, a native of Airdrie, Alta., spends his offseason playing for the Airdrie Brewers mens AA baseball club.
From Hockey’s Future:
Rattie is adept at locating open ice in the attacking zone. He is the epitome of a player with a “nose for the net”. What makes Rattie most valuable is his obvious thought process on the ice. He is not a powerful skater, yet he seems to be able to hang on to the puck when it matters most. He is a versatile forward and a consistent special teams player. Rattie will need to work on his defensive game at the professional level.
Big deal. No improvements going forward means a drop in the standings. Say what you want but Anaheim and Calgary are much improved.
Hahahah
Edmonton will drop by about 5-10 points next season. They will scrape into playoffs.
Dallas is that you? Why aren’t you on a 75 km bike ride? Your handle is so appropriate – matches your comments
The Oilers are going to go through a correction next season. They have less experience/proven/consistent scoring on the wings. They have an unproven backup and their defence is about the same – probably less given the Sekera injury going into next season. The team has not improved from last season and there is an effort to get younger, less experienced guys in the lineup. The Oilers are going to take more time to come together – and that is if the cap groups over the next several seasons.
Wow – couple of hockey experts here. How about the fact that our kids have now played in two long playoff series and are a year older? I expect production to go up from a few key players and I think we finish north of 100 points very easily this year. Also last time I checked FA didn’t close at 11am so there is still time to make some moves.
Right you are Muddy. There will still be some signings or moves, the ones that go early get paid the most. PC has to be frugal and smart with the remaining cap space to sign a couple more players. Last year there was an early frenzy then a week to months later came the better deals. Russell was a value signing at 3 mil/yr, not sure how he pans out this year. There will still be some good players left after today that will come down in price. Besides Connor and Leon will both be better next year. What other team can say that?!?
There used to be an old saying in football that for each new starter in your lineup you were guaranteed one loss. To believe that just by adding new players to an already good team is a load of crap.
Getting rid of Lazy will get us 6 to 10 more wins.
I know, I’m glad Pouliot is gone too!
Most of our core is young and can still improve. McDavid, Draisaitl, Klefbom, Larsson, Strome, Benning, Nurse and Caggiula can all get better. Even the Nuge could have a bounce back season.
It’s crazy that McDavid can get better. His best seasons are ahead of him.
Um….ok!
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Who is Ty Rattie?
The Toronto Sports Media is going full bore on their someone please offer sheet Leon route this morning. Hopefully that Leon contract gets signed soon so these morons can shut their traps.
As for Ty Rattie, this is an AHL deal nothing more. Although with our inexperience on the wings this upcoming season who knows what chance this kid may get when someone struggles on the big club.
Even with a big Leon contract the Oilers have money to sign Vrbata or a veteran on the wing and hopefully a dman as well. Maybe it’ll take a few days to get a deal done. The Oilers will have to make some moves and I think PC will. Here’s to hoping we can improve next season and not regress.
Totally agree, obviously he must be healthy for Dallas signing him 3 years and at a million could be a steal
I would have rather we took another chance on Pitlick instead of Rattie… I have a feeling we are going to regret letting Tyler get away.
Have to agree that Pitlick has a lot more to offer, but no way he re-signs here with a 3 year contract at a guaranteed $3 million from his home town team in his sights.
Edit…i thought he signed with Minnesota not Dallas. Still..$3 million…
Yeah. He contributes so much on the LTIR
Great news on Gagner signing for three years in Vancouver. The Oilers now get to reap the spoils of Sam’s defensive game.
EDM couldn’t scrape together enough coin to match Pitlick’s offer from DAL of $1M/yr for 3 years? That’s hardly an overpay for a middle six RW. Pity. There better be another RW coming to EDM – Ty Rattie is an AHLer only.
And Pitlick is a Rocket Richard established NHL winger?
Rattie and Pitlick are the same. And Pitlick is always in bed, good riddance
I watched Rattie play a couple games against the Oil Kings. He has lots of skill and there is still potential there. For the price this is a good depth signing. I would bet they have him pencilled in to replace Pitlick like the article says.
But I thought what you did in junior is irrelevant when it comes to evaluating a player?
Reading skills matter…..you do understand what the word potential means.
I think they just didn’t want to pay Pitlick because he is so accident prone…has he even played a full season?
Pitlick is a good player but, unfortunately he is made of glass. I would be surprised if he puts in a 82 game season ever in his career. I hope he does, however I doubt it.
I think he will have a good NHL career. injuries heal. Pitlick will do fine.
Why should the Oilers sign a guy like Pitlick?
1st season 10 games
2nd season 17 games
3rd season 31 games.
too long of a contract for pit in dallas. i dont get it
those arent all games lost to injury, he was also playing in the AHL. We should have resigned him because he is a good winger
Good signing. Right age, right skill-level, low dollars and low risk. Just hoping this isnt it for today…
i get that this is a depth deal but chiarelli doing zip makes me feel very nervous
He has to figure out what Drai will make first so he know how much he can give to Jagr.
He can only make material acquisitions of a one-year deal.
There is zero money to spend on next season so any deal with term is a non-starter.
The Vrbata and Thornton one-year deals are really the only deals out there that would have made any sense for Edmonton.
One may see a Pirri and/or Franson signing at some point.
Outter marker of a Hemsky or a Jagr
I seem to recall a Taylor vs Tyler debate back in 2010. Now, in 2017, we have a Ty vs Tyler debate??????
Just read his stats, we got a player here people. Something about this signing has me giddy.
He is the kind of player that if he can keep up 97 or 93 he could take a feed and deposit it in the net.
No idea why he never worked with the blues, but then again the blue play a very different kind of game, than the oil, he could be a good fit if not. Low risk High reward signing.
Giddy? About this signing? Probably need to lay off the Canada Day beer and/or pipe.
Just HAAAD to throw in the Airdrie part, didn’t you?
Insider information 😉
Don’t bet against any team that has the best player on their team
Every goal is critical. We have now lost approximately 35 goals per season and if you don’t think that will make a difference you are crazy. it’s going to be tough to make the playoffs this year oil. How many games did we win by 1 goal? If we don’t replace the players that scored with other players that can score we’re a lesser team than before.
