In the continuation of the trend of killing Toronto’s hopes of Toronto-area born players coming home as soon as they can (a trend they finally bucked this year when they signed John Tavares) on this day back in 2017, Connor McDavid signed an eight-year, $100 million dollar extension with the Oilers.
The best hockey player on the planet Earth currently and for the foreseeable future signed a deal to make sure he would stay around for many years to come. It was a great day in Edmonton. Can someone get Don Iveson on the horn and make this a city-wide holiday? I am thinking along the lines of a St. Patricks day where we all just drink and be merry.
In case this is your first time checking into the site, Connor has now been voted the best player by his peers (Ted Lindsay award) two years running. He has won the Art Ross trophy two years in a row as well, as the league’s leading scorer. He also just happens to have one Hart trophy (sports writers MVP) in his trophy case as well.

The cap hit of $12.5 million dollars is only going to continue to get better as his deal goes on (and there will be many non-Oilers fans who will whine that it was an RFA deal) and Connor is only going to continue to burn other team’s goalies and making his teammates and buddies look better and better.
So join me now and always as we say:
Thank you, Connor!
