Oilers Prospect Update: Condors Rising

The Condors are 20-15-2-1 after a four-game win streak that carried into this week. Gambardella (fresh back from his stint in the NHL), Marody, Currie, and Benson are all better than PPG game players this week.

Skinner and Wells swapped spots in the AHL and ECHL and other news for the prospects this week:

Oilers prospects snubbed by Craig Button – Craig compiled his list of post-Christmas top prospects, Evan Bouchard was noticibly missing. I did ask him on twitter why this was:

The Skinner/Wells swap was interesting to me because Wells was doing fairly well. It means to me that the organization values the two pretty closely and want both to get some AHL games and experience.

A massive change from year’s past where a rookie pro goalie wouldn’t get AHL games except maybe in garbage time.

Nice win by Skinner last night (although the Condors really dominated).

    • Bigwreck

Hello OP, just wondering if you have watched either much this season. Seems like both have been playing well at times this year. I’m thinking Starrett might have a shot at the back up job in the NHL next year, seems like he’s had a really good season so far. So would that mean Skinner Wells combo in Bakersfield next year?

      • OriginalPouzar

I’ve watched quite a bit of the Condors’ (the AHL TV is like $60 for the entire year). Haven’t seen much of Skinner as he’s only played a few AHL games – he was solid last night, a bad break away from a shut out but, frankly, the Condors dominated and it wasn’t a tough night for him.

I’ve seen a bit more of Wells – he started off hot when he got some games and was amazing in his shutout game. Had come down to earth a big but still fairing well for a rookie pro goalie in the AHL.

Starrett is clearly the AHL starter now. I don’t think the org would feel comfortable with him going in to camp as the back-up so they will have some true comp for him but he’ll likely have a shot.

So, yes, we could see the Skinner/Wells combo but remember, Hayden Hawkey will likely sign and turn pro.

Cooper Marody is on some sort of heater for the Condors – 7P in his last 3G.

Currie is scoring goals seemingly at will right now – I don’t think he’s an actual NHL option.

Benson completes that line and is producing almost as much as Marody right now.

The Condors’ PP is absolutely lethal right now.

Stuart Skinner with the win last night.

    Condors have won four straight.

Look forward to their game tomorrow night – no Oilers game to interfere so I can watch in full subject to bed time.

Marody needs to do everything he can to continue to work to improve his skating – he’s got the IQ, skill and work ethic to be an NHL player but his boots are, well, not good.

Skating is the one thing that may hold him back from an NHL career (and probably, at the vest least, forces him to the wing).

  • Oilerz4life

Button is a joke. He is jealous that Bouchard has mastered the defensive position and could easily play in the NHL (something Button couldn’t do in his wildest dreams). It chaps his ass that it will occur in Edmonton and so he has to put on a big drama tweet, like he’s on his monthly TSN in Toronto period. Nobody takes Button seriously, the guy is a Toronto hack and everybody knows it.

MIN can beat CBJ without dumba, AZ can beat TOR without ranta..

Can we beat either team even with klef..hell no..
