Too bad Yamamoto is missing out on these playoffs and Marody is now as well. Benson has suddenly become the top forward prospect in the system. Also good on Gambardella at a point per game. Wish I could watch these games to see how each player is performing. The defense prospects are great.

Each of Jones, Lagesson and Bear must (and will) get their NHL reps this year. Each of them loses their waiver exempt status after this season so the org needs to take a look at them.

Of course, don’t rush them, but they are each on the cusp of NHL readiness. One will likely break camp with the big club but all three will get their NHL reps – NHL teams almost always use 10 plus d-men in a season.

Lagesson is going to be a fan favorite in Edmonton!

I agree with you the only thing that concerns me is that the Oilers don’t have enough cap space to sign free agents of any caliber, players on entry level deals are just what they need. I would be happy if both Jones and Gambardella make the team out of camp. Jones could replace Petrovic and his learning could continue with sheltered minutes in a 5-6 role in the the NHL. The 7th D man could be picked up on waivers one year value contract.

Fixing the winger problem is a bit more problematic in a year time frame. Gambardella could help fix this situation, he shows leadership and a good two-way winger who could be signed to a value two year contract, with the potential to develop into more.

Samorukov currently with a goal and two assists as Guelph has a 5-3 lead late in the 2nd – looking to punch their ticket to the Memorial Cup.

His goal was an absolute bomb of a one-timer on the PP.

      • FISTO Siltanen

I agree. The good news is he might be hemmed in Bakersfield for at least two years with what the Oilers have up at the NHL level and that only bodes well for him. He’s gonna be a beast.

  • Nellzo

I look at the defensive prospects and have to remind myself that Ken (Slow Hand) Holland is now in control of their development. Samorukov, Bouchard, Jones, Bear, Lagesson. We could have an embarrassment of riches in 2 or 3 years.
