Some interesting things of note…

  • The Oilers kick off the season with back-to-back home games before going on an Eastern four-game road trip immediately after. They’ll have just two road trips that are longer than four games. The first comes in November through the Western Conference and the other comes in January through the Atlantic Division. The closest thing to a murderer’s row road trip the Oilers have would be that January one, which features Toronto, Boston, and Calgary. Otherwise, there aren’t any overly daunting long road trips.
  • Four of the five Battle of Alberta games will take place on weekends. If you’re planning a trip down to Calgary to invade the Saddledome and bother Flames fans, you’ll be able to do so on Jan. 11, Feb. 1, and April 4.
  • The Oilers will be going to Vegas twice this year, one of which is on a weekend. The weekend game will be Nov. 23 and they’ll be back in the middle of the week on Feb. 26.
  • If you’re interested in doing a Florida trip, the Oilers are in Tampa Bay on Feb. 13 and in Sunrise on Feb. 15. If you’re a baseball person, you’d be there right around the start of spring training.

By my count, 10 of the Oilers’ first 14 games (October) are against teams that did not make the playoffs this past season. Doesn’t mean they will all play at the same level to start next season after a summer of changes but it appears an easier start than last season. Hopefully the Oilers, who need all the help they can get since for them all the opponents are tough, can take advantage of this a get off to a decent start. That can build some confidence. Maybe it will be a touch easier for Tippett to get the team playing his way as well.
