Welcome, Nation, to a brand new episode of Inside the Nation which is proudly brought to you by Popeye’s Chicken! It’s game day for an Edmonton Oilers club that has some key injuries mounting throughout their lineup, and Dusty Nielson is here to make sense of how they can navigate what will certainly be a challenging evening against the Boston Bruins.
To kick off today’s episode, Dusty starts with a look at Oscar Klefbom’s shoulder injury and what happens going forward with him out of the lineup. It goes without saying that losing Klefbom is a massive blow to the Oilers’ defensive group, and it will be interesting to see how the team adapts to his absence, especially against a stacked Bruins team that is playing very well right now. Sticking with the defence, the conversation turned to Evan Bouchard, who was recalled from the Bakersfield Condors earlier today and how he fits in the current defensive group. Will Bouchard get a chance to play? Dave Tippett said that he won’t be available tonight but that he could get some games as the month wears on. From there, Dusty looked at Monday’s trade deadline and offers a few ideas on what to expect from Ken Holland as he continues looking for ways to upgrade the roster. Would he be willing to trade a first round pick to make it happen? Would Tomas Tatar+ be enough of a return for him to consider spending that pick in a trade? At this point, a lot of names are coming off the trade board and it will be very interesting to see what the Oilers actually doing going forward.
