The game of goaltender musical chairs continues.
In the past week, we’ve seen the New Jersey Devils claim Eric Comrie from Winnipeg, the Carolina Hurricanes claim Anton Forsberg from Edmonton, the Winnipeg Jets claim Forsberg from Carolina to replace Comrie, and now the Devils have gone and claimed Aaron Dell from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Devils claim Dell…

Dell would have been an ideal addition for the Oilers, who are currently operating with a difficult goaltending situation. Stuart Skinner is backing up Mikko Koskinen while Troy Grosenick, the goalie Edmonton claimed from Los Angeles, does a two-week quarantine to enter Canada.
With Dell being in Toronto, he wouldn’t have had to do a quarantine before joining the team, but New Jersey had waiver priority over the Oilers and ultimately nabbed the former Sharks backup goalie.
This game of musical chairs will continue. With New Jersey claiming Dell, we’ll likely see Eric Comrie hit waivers eventually. Winnipeg could opt to take him back and then we could see Forsberg wind up on waivers again.
So, for now, Skinner remains Koskinen’s backup while the team waits for Grosenick to finish his quarantine.
