It has been an oddly quiet week in the Edmonton Oilers prospect world.
The Bakersfield Condors didn’t play at all this week. They are back in action this weekend against the Ontario Reign and San Diego Gulls. Of course, we’ve watched a few of the Condors play a role for the Oilers recently. Philip Broberg and William Laggesson were both called up with multiple injuries on the Edmonton blueline.
On Saturday night, Broberg got his first NHL point with a secondary assist on Connor McDavid’s opening goal against the Chicago Blackhawks. With the injuries, the former 8th overall pick’s minutes have increased each game, and he is now averaging around 18 minutes a night.
Let’s take a look at what everyone else did:

Matvey Petrov has another dominant week

Matvey Petrov was the highest-scoring Oilers prospect with three goals and six points for the North Bay Battalion. It started last Friday with a goal and an assist against Tyler Tullio’s Oshawa Generals. His goal was an empty netter, but his assist came on the game-winning goal after delivering a nice pass from behind the net. His following two goals came against Niagara, with the first being a quick shot off the faceoff to open the scoring on the night. His second was a nice tip in front from a cross-crease pass. Overall, Petrov continues to impress and is putting himself on the radar for Team Russia.

Max Wanner scores his first junior goal

Max Wanner found the back of the net for his first WHL goal against the Prince Albert Raiders last night. The goal ended a seven-game pointless streak for the Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman, but in his defence, Wanner is not known for his offensive capabilities. The Oilers drafted him in the seventh round of last year’s draft. He’s a 6’3 defenceman in the Western Hockey League with good skating abilities and notable size. We will see how he develops over time, but congratulations to him on scoring his first junior hockey goal.

Savoie continues his reign of terror

One player who scores more often than not is St Albert’s very own Carter Savoie. It’s automatic that he finds his name on this report. This time, Savoie scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season against Miami (Ohio) University for his fifth goal in his last four games. The next night, he grabbed an assist to take his points tally to 19 and is one away from his total last year.
