Today, we’re looking at the 18th ranked @Chris Tanev and 17th @Brenden Dillon.

Tanev is an interesting UFA this year. He&#8217;s coming off a five-year, $4.45-m AAV deal and appears to be heading to the market. Over the length of the deal, he&#8217;s scored 12 goals and 71 assists in 288 games.
This year he tied his career-high in offensive production scoring two goals and 20 points in 69 games, but his underlying numbers were not favourable. At 5v5 he posted a 46.67 CF%, an xG% of 48.16 and a goals for rate of 46.88 percent.
As a second-pairing defenceman, his isolated impacts were not good. Offensively he contributed at a nine percent rate worse than league average and defence at a four percent rate worse than league average, including some struggles in front of his own net.
Contract projection: One year, $1.659-m.
Should the Oilers be interested? No. While the offensive output was decent, I don&#8217;t think Tanev is a player the Oilers need.
<h1>@Brenden Dillon</h1>
Dillon is coming off a five-year, $3.275-m AAV deal signed with the San Jose Sharks, but the club traded him to the Washington Capitals ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
He scored 14 points in 69 games this year between the two clubs as a second-pairing defenceman. While offence when to die with Dillon in thanks to offensive contributions at a six percent rate worse than league average, he contributed defence at a 10 percent rate higher than league average.
At 5v5, he brought a 51 CF%, and an xG% around 53 percent. His goals for percentage came in just under 48 percent.
Contract projection: One year, $1.476-m.
Should the Oilers be interested? Based off his strong defensive play and projected cheap contract, yeah, I think the Oilers should be interested. It largely depends on what else plays out on the Oilers back end, but he could bring even more value being bumped into a third pairing role in Edmonton.
