  • Vegas Golden Knights: 99.5 points (over +100, under -130)
  • Vancouver Canucks: 98.5 points (over -115, under -105)

  • Calgary Flames: 82.5 points (over -110, under -110)
  • Anaheim Ducks: 71.5 points (over -110, under -110)
  • San Jose Sharks: 64.5 points (over -110, under -110)

Edmonton Oilers: 108.5 Points (Over -110, Under -110)

Despite being tied for last place in November, the Oilers rallied to finish the season with 104 points and came within one win of the Stanley Cup. Since then, the team has added impact players Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. As a result, oddsmakers anticipate even greater success in the 2024-25 season. With a projected point total of 108.5, Edmonton is set to dominate the Pacific Division and is the only team in the division expected to exceed 100 points. The next-best team is projected at 102.5 points. Additionally, based on regular season point totals, Edmonton is expected to face the easiest schedule in the NHL.

Vegas Golden Knights: 99.5 Points (Over +100, Under -130)

According to ESPN, the Golden Knights experienced the most significant loss of value this offseason, as several key players have departed. Jonathan Marchesseault, Chandler Stephenson, Alec Martinez, Michael Amadio, Anthony Mantha, and Logan Thompson are all out, leaving the team with substantial gaps to fill. As a result, it’s a bit surprising to see Vegas ranked as the de facto No. 2 team in the Pacific Division, but this only highlights the uncertainty that exists in the division after Edmonton.

Vancouver Canucks: 98.5 Points (Over -115, Under -105)

The Canucks surprised everyone outside of Vancouver in the 2023-24 season by winning the Pacific Division with 109 points and advancing past the first round of the playoffs. However, oddsmakers expect the Canucks to take a step back in the 2024-25 season, setting their regular season points total at 98.5. This could suggest that oddsmakers believe the Canucks overachieved last season, or it might reflect doubts about whether new additions like Jake DeBrusk, Danton Heinen, and Vincent Desharnais can compensate for the losses of Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov. Either way, oddsmakers don’t believe the Canucks will stack up as well against the Oilers as they did last season, and therefore, there’s regression in Vancouver’s forecast.

Los Angeles Kings: 98.5 Points (Over +100, Under -130)

Los Angeles didn’t blow it up after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round for the third season in a row, but the Kings’ brass have made some significant changes to the roster this offseason. That’s not necessarily a good thing, though, as Los Angeles is considerably worse off after downgrading to Joel Edmundson from Matt Roy on the blue line and losing Viktor Arvidsson to the Oilers in free agency. They did manage to sign former Oilers’ winger Warren Foegele and get out of the Pierre-Luc Dubois contract, but now they’re betting that 34-year-old goaltender Darcy Kuemper can turn back the clock. No wonder oddsmakers expect the status quo.

Seattle Kraken: 88.5 Points (Over +100, Under -130)

The Kraken took two steps forward in 2022-23 after finishing with just 60 points in 2021-22, hitting the 100-point mark and defeating the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs. However, Seattle took a big step back in 2023-24, missing the postseason with just 81 points. Heading into the 2024-25 season, oddsmakers have set Seattle’s regular season points total at 88.5 following a decent offseason. Sure, the Kraken handed out bad contracts to players like Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson, but both players will make them a better team in the short term, and that’s all that matters here.

Calgary Flames: 82.5 Points (Over -110, Under -110)

The Calgary Flames aren’t a bad hockey team, but they’re not exactly good either. If they had kept Jacob Markstrom, oddsmakers probably would have set their regular season points total in the high 80s after finishing with just 81 points in 2023-24. However, with the 34-year-old goaltender now gone, any chance of improving on last season’s performance seems to have slipped away. The Flames added forwards Anthony Mantha and Ryan Lomberg, as well as defenseman Jake Bean, but oddsmakers aren’t expecting much of an improvement after having set their regular season points total at just 82.5 for the 2024-25 season.

Anaheim Ducks: 71.5 Points (Over -110, Under -110)

The Ducks finished with just 59 points last season, but their regular season point total is set at 71.5 for the upcoming year. Offseason acquisitions Robby Fabbri, Brian Dumoulin, and Jansen Harkins might seem underwhelming, but the Ducks’ cautious approach could pay off with several young players eligible for contract extensions next summer. Oddsmakers believe the Ducks might benefit from a full season of Leo Carlsson and the excitement of Cutter Gauthier’s rookie campaign. With key players like Mason McTavish, Alex Killorn, Trevor Zegras, Pavel Mintyukov, and Tristan Luneau expected to make an impact if healthy, there’s a bit more optimism surrounding the team heading into the 2024-25 season.

San Jose Sharks: 64.5 Points (Over -110, Under -110)

Last season, the San Jose Sharks finished with just 47 points, the lowest total ever for an 82-game season under the current points system. However, unlike the previous season, when they missed out on Connor Bedard, the Sharks were rewarded with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, which they used to select Macklin Celebrini. Additionally, Will Smith, the No. 4 overall pick from the 2023 draft, will be vying for a spot on the roster. San Jose also added quality players like veteran forward Tyler Toffoli and defenseman Jake Walman in the offseason. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that oddsmakers believe the Sharks can only go up in the 2024-25 season, setting their points total at 64.5. It’s still the lowest regular season points total of any team in the league, though.
