<p>It was 38 years ago today that Mark Messier became the 2nd @Edmonton Oilers players to score 50 goals in a single season.</p>

<p>He cut it down to the wire as it was the second last game of the regular season where Messier potted a pair of goals in a 7-4 loss to the @Los Angeles Kings.</p>
<p>For Moose, it was the highest goal total that he ever put up during his time in the and only scored over 40 goals three other times in his career.</p>
<p>The first Oiler to score 50 goals in a single season was none other than Wayne Gretzky, who potted 50 goals in both 1979-80 and 1980-81.</p>
<p>I couldn&#8217;t seem to find any footage of Messier scoring those goals, but I did find a four-goal performance of his on Dec. 19, 1982 against the Montreal Canadiens for your viewing pleasure.</p>
