It was 38 years ago today that Mark Messier became the 2nd @Edmonton Oilers players to score 50 goals in a single season.
He cut it down to the wire as it was the second last game of the regular season where Messier potted a pair of goals in a 7-4 loss to the @Los Angeles Kings.
For Moose, it was the highest goal total that he ever put up during his time in the and only scored over 40 goals three other times in his career.
The first Oiler to score 50 goals in a single season was none other than Wayne Gretzky, who potted 50 goals in both 1979-80 and 1980-81.
I couldn’t seem to find any footage of Messier scoring those goals, but I did find a four-goal performance of his on Dec. 19, 1982 against the Montreal Canadiens for your viewing pleasure.
