A member of the Edmonton Oilers is set to reach a significant milestone on Tuesday night, while making a little history as well.
When the Oilers face off against the Ottawa Senators, forward Adam Henrique will be playing in the 1,000th game of his NHL career. He’ll become the 409th player in league history to reach the milestone. The veteran pivot will also become the first player ever to appear in his 1,000th game while wearing an Oilers jersey.
That might sound like a crazy stat to some, especially with a team that has seen legends like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and Ryan Smyth walk through its doors. However, none of them hit the millennium mark while wearing the blue and orange.
The only member of the Oilers franchise to ever play 1,000 games with the team is Hall of Fame defenseman Kevin Lowe. While he played 1,037 games in Edmonton, he reached 1,000 games in the league as a member of the New York Rangers, just like Messier.
The closest player to reaching 1,000 games as an Oiler is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The former first-overall pick has appeared in 965 games with the team.
Henrique came to Edmonton in March 2024 as part of a three-team trade with the Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Brantford, Ont. native was brought in to help give the Oilers some stability down the middle, along with some veteran experience for the still-growing team.
His production has been subtle, but he has still played the majority of the time as Edmonton has advanced to the Stanley Cup Final in each of the past two seasons. The 35-year-old has scored four goals and three assists for seven points in both of his postseasons with the team.
Last year, Henrique scored just 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 81 games, the lowest point total in a normal season of his NHL career. This year, he has notched a goal and an assist for two points in six games.
Puck drop for the Oilers (2-3-1) and Senators in the nation’s capital is set for 5:00 PM MT.
