No. 85: Artem Shlaine

Profile: A Russian-born forward who moved to the United States, Shlaine has spent his last two seasons playing for the Shattuck prep hockey factory in Minnesota. He’s a big, strong power-forward who plays a skilled game, producing offensively while not shying away from physical play. He’s committed to play for Boston University next season.
BU gained its fifth recruit for 2021 with a verbal commitment from standout Shattuck St. Mary’s Midget Prep forward Artem Shlaine. A native of Moscow transplanted to Florida, the 6’1” left-shot center produced 90 points (34G, 56A) for the Sabres, the top U.S. midget team throughout most of the season. Shlaine added a dozen more, including three power play goals, in the Tier 1 18U nationals, just a point behind the tournament leaders. A 2018 draft pick of USHL Sioux Falls, he suited up for the Stampede in two playoff games this season.New England Hockey Journal’s Jeff Cox says Shlaine is “a power forward with skill. Plays a heavy game. He was so good for Shattuck this year. Best forward in 18U hockey this year.”Last month, Shlaine was drafted 56th overall in the OHL Priority Draft by the Owen Sound Attack, whose general manager said, “If he comes, he’s going to be a phenomenal player.” – Terrier Hockey
No. 84: Bogdan Trineyev

Height: 190 cm / 6’3″
Weight: 80 kg / 176 lbs
Profile: A classic, old-school power forward, Trineyev uses his size to push other players around on the ice, creating space for himself to dominate in the offensive zone. If he develops his skating and stick skills, he could become a very dangerous forward.
Bogdan Trineyev is the type of player an NHL franchise could fall in love with. He plays a classic power forward game, using his big 6-foot-3 frame to bully his way around the ice, getting into the dirty areas to score goals or laying down hits to give the opponent something to think about.While his skating and shot are still very raw, they are good enough to support his physical gameplan. Trineyev can open up opponents by moving around the ice while putting a strong if shaky shot on the net. While his scoring totals are nothing special, he has been able to produce points at the MHL level, as well as with Russia’s U18 team, where he played on the top line. Despite not be the most skilled skater or the strongest forward in the draft, he has that intangible compete level that could make him a future NHLer even without a first-round toolkit. – Eugene Helfrick, The Hockey Writers

No. 83: Martin Chromiak

Weight: 82 kg / 181 lbs
Profile: Chromiak made the transition mid-way through the 2019-20 season to leave his native Slovakia to join the Kingston Frontneacs. He would hit the ground running in the OHL, finding chemistry alongside Shane Wright on the team’s top line, producing 33 points in 28 games. Chromiak boasts a strong skillset, but there’s concern his production is the result of playing with an elite linemate.
Stepping right into the OHL and onto Shane Wright’s line in Kingston, Chromiak didn’t disappoint. He almost instantly gelled with Wright and Zayde Wisdom forming one of the more dangerous lines in the second half of the OHL season. While there has been some trepidation that Chromiak’s scoring rate was inflated by playing with Wright, the fact of the matter is that Wright’s scoring rate rose when Chromiak arrived. The two players clearly benefitted from each other and that bodes well for Chromiak.He doesn’t drive a line on his own but the young Slovakian forward is an excellent complimentary piece that has the intelligence, skating, and skill to play with high-level players. Chromiak has a very good shot and doesn’t hesitate to use it. He sees the ice well and finds teammates regularly. Chromiak looks like a player that a team could find in the second or third round of the 2020 NHL Draft and play higher in the lineup than initially expected. – Tony Ferrari, Dobber Prospects

No. 82: Charlie Desroches
Date of Birth: April 24th, 2002
Nation: Canada
Position: Defence
Shoots: Right
Height: 177 cm / 5’10”
Weight: 77 kg / 170 lbs
Profile: Somewhat of an undersized defender, Desroches uses strong hockey sense and fundamental play in order to be a successful defender. He’s spent his last two seasons with the Saint John Sea Dogs and could take on a larger role for the team offensively.
Still growing into his body so will be a better player down the pike. Already displays strong fundamental game which includes a getting pucks deep taking hits to make passes, and a strong understanding of the attack zone. Has a good pivot to get attackers into close to the boards. Is a sound passer who understands the nuances of distribution in the offensive zone. Will take a hit to make the outlet. Understands how to use teammates and get passes to the right one. Supports his forwards well. On defence, while mirroring quick attackers, he will pivot and close off the boards. No. 81: Landon Slaggert

Nation: United States
Position: Centre

Height: 182 cm / 6’0″
Weight: 83 kg / 183 lbs
Profile: A product of the United States National Development Program, Slaggert is committed to play NCAA hockey for Notre Dame next season. He’s known as a good, all-around centre who doesn’t feature one elite skillset in particular, instead boasting a jack-of-all-trades style of game.
US Developmental team whose father Andy is an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame, where he has committed. As are most of the USA players, he has a high hockey IQ sound decision making instincts and good all-around toolbox and skill. Does everything well but doesn’t have an outstanding strength that would classify him in a more dynamic fashion. He is a very good balance skater who has a very good wall game, a good cycle, and strong, hard forecheck. Mature and a great teammate who can play up and down a line-up in various roles but projects as mid roster. In 2019-20, Slaggert appeared in 66 games scoring 34 points. – Bill Placzek, Draft Site
