I know it’s not Injury Report day (Thursday), but I’ve got an injury update for you that just can’t wait.
Both Alex Chiasson and Matt Benning seemed to be in good shape today. If you don’t remember, Alex Chiasson took a puck off the ear in yesterday’s game as a Penguins defenceman was trying to clear the puck from the zone. Chiasson left the game in a hurry but later returned. It was reported this morning that he had to get stitches in his ear, but is expected to play tomorrow night against the Capitals, even though he didn’t skate at practice today.
We also have finally heard an update on Matt Benning who left the game against the Boston Bruins early last week with concussion-like symptoms. Benning only played a few minutes that game, and no one had a clue what his injury was. In an interview today, he said that he got his bell rung when hitting David Backes in his first shift of the game.
That’s kind of ironic hey? Benning lays a high hit on Backes only to be the one getting injured. It was a very odd play and I can’t really tell how Benning got hurt from it. Maybe it was the collision with the Bruins player after he hit Backes? Either way, it’s good to hear Benning’s doing well, and I hope to see him healthy soon.
