According to Ken Hitchcock, the Edmonton Oilers will be without Alex Petrovic for at least three games as the team follows concussion protocols following the hit from behind that he took against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday night, Alex Petrovic went into the corner to retrieve a puck and ended up taking a hit to the numbers from Sharks’ forward, Timo Meier. After the collision, you could tell that Petrovic wasn’t quite right as he seemed stunned while trying to make his way back to the Oilers’ bench. Once there, Petrovic went straight to the dressing room and did not return. Meier was not penalized on the play.
Petrovic joins Oscar Klefbom and Andrej Sekera on the sidelines as the Oilers try to make do with a patchwork defensive group that’s missing three of its regulars. Since being acquired from the Panthers on December 30th, Petrovic has average 15:07 on ice with the Oilers while spending much of his time with Kevin Gravel. Matt Benning will take Petrovic’s spot in the lineup tonight against the Panthers.
In five games played with the Oilers since being acquired from the Florida Panthers, Petrovic has registered one assist, two shots, and a -5 rating.
