SCOUTING REPORTS
“When the shot isn’t an option, Tullio shows a great deal of adaptability, integrating one-touch maneuvers, playing pucks into space, manipulating defenders out of shooting lanes — you name it, and he can do it. He plays with a high motor and shows real attention to detail on the defensive side.” -EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide
“His size gives him some limitations but he works to get pucks back and he’s a superb perimeter player who can make things happen from the outside-in and play with a variety of linemates.” -Scott Wheeler, The Athletic
“A player with good quickness and an especially quick release on his shot, Tullio disrupts the opposition well. He’s almost gnat-like with the way he hounds the puck.” -Chris Peters, ESPN
“His versatility as a forward allows him to play all three positions if needed and his responsible two-way play led you to believe that he could have a long-term future as a center if he can get a bit bigger and stronger.” -Tony Ferrari, Dobber Prospects
“Tullio is a versatile forward. He is capable of playing all three forward positions. His lack of size and strength could be an issue and could lead to him becoming a winger going forward. However, if he can add muscle, he has the skating ability and the smarts to stay in the middle. If he develops properly, he can be a middle-six forward, adding offence while playing a smart defensive game. Tullio’s game is reminiscent of Mikael Granlund, however, this is a stylistic comparison only and not one based on skill and potential.” -Ben Kerr, Last Word on Sports
“Tullio personifies the term energy…or grit. He is like the energizer bunny on the ice. He just keeps going, and going, and going. His play away from the puck is often the first thing you notice about him. Forecheck, backcheck, driving the net. He is ultra-aggressive in pursuit of the puck in any zone and any situation.” -Brock Otten, OHL Prospects
“Tyler is a competitive player that would do almost anything to score a goal or win a hockey game. He is a good skater that can beat defenders wide and win loose puck battles all over the ice. He possesses a junior level shot already. It’s hard, accurate and he gets it on net very quickly. Tyler competes very hard each shift and isn’t shy to battle against the bigger defenders and usually comes out with the puck. He is a ‘Gamer’ and the type of player you win with.” -Dominic Tiano, OHL Writers
LOOKING AHEAD…
Much like any prospect selected in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft, Tyler Tullio will require plenty of time and patience to develop and hone his craft before ever making it to the National Hockey League. Next season, Tullio will return to the Oshawa Generals for his third season in the OHL, hopefully earning more opportunity and ice time as a result. The 2019-20 season was the first time in his junior career that Tullio finished his year at better than a point-per-game clip, and it will be interesting to see whether or not he will be able to increase those totals in year three.
