With their third selection at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, the Edmonton Oilers have chosen Tyler Tullio from the Oshawa Generals. Tullio, a native of Lakeshore, Ontario, has spent the past two years with the Generals of the Ontario Hockey League and has seen a sizeable increase in his production over that time. Known for his speed and responsible two-way play, the 5’11” winger will add another dose of skill to an Oilers depth chart that desperately needs more players that can score. While there’s no doubt that Tullio is still a ways away from competing in the pros, spending at least another year in the OHL will provide him with another season of important development before making the leap to the next level.
In 62 games played with the Oshawa Generals, Tullio registered 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points.

WHO IS TYLER TULLIO?

Now that we know Tullio is the third pick for the Oilers at this year’s draft, I dove back into the Internet machine to scrape together what I could about the type of player he is to try so that we all have a better idea of what we have here:
Elite Prospects 2020 Draft Guide:
When the shot isn’t an option, Tullio shows a great deal of adaptability, integrating one-touch maneuvers, playing pucks into space, manipulating defenders out of shooting lanes — you name it, and he can do it. He plays with a high motor and shows real attention to detail on the defensive side.
Scott Wheeler, The Athletic:
His size gives him some limitations but he works to get pucks back and he’s a superb perimeter player who can make things happen from the outside-in and play with a variety of linemates.
Dobber Prospects:
His versatility as a forward allows him to play all three positions if needed and his responsible two-way play led you to believe that he could have a long-term future as a center if he can get a bit bigger and stronger.
Chris Peters, ESPN:
A player with good quickness and an especially quick release on his shot, Tullio disrupts the opposition well. He’s almost gnat-like with the way he hounds the puck.
