Amid slew of injuries, Oilers recall Musil

The injury bug has once arrived again in Edmonton. As a result, they have called up Condors’ defender David Musil

After returning from injury and  finally getting the chance to play things were starting to look good for Mark Fayne. Due to injuries to Darnell Nurse, Eric Gryba and Brandon Davidson, Fayne finally got the call to return to the lineup after being waived, reassigned and recalled. Until he left last night’s game against the Sabres, Fayne had been filling in admirably. 

The injury to Fayne is still unknown but, during the broadcast of last night’s game in which he was injured, Drew Remenda suggested that Fayne could’ve reinjured his left leg. The accompanying video showed Fayne having issues with his left leg, even leading him to leave the ice before an offensive zone faceoff. 

With the Oilers putting Fayne on IR, they were forced to recall another defenceman from the Bakersfield Condors. This time, long time prospect David Musil received the call.

The enigmatic prospect was drafted 31st overall in the 2011 entry draft and has only played in four NHL games to date.

Criticism of the Oilers for drafting Musil has been just to this point, as he has had limited showing in the NHL. In 16 AHL games this year, Musil already has six points. He is on pace to blow past his career high point totals and, if he continues on this pace, he will score 27 points which is nearly double his previous career AHL high of 14 points.
