Earlier today, the Oilers dealt Brandon Davidson to the New York Islanders for a prospect. Soon after, they made a corresponding roster move by activating Andrej Sekera from the Injured Reserve and recalling forward Ty Rattie from the AHL.
Dealing Davidson for a draft pick gave the Oilers the room to activate Sekera to the 23-man roster. Sekera has been injured since Feb. 9 when he got hit in the face with the puck in a game against the Anaheim Ducks. The injury was unrelated to the ACL injury suffered back in last year’s playoffs that kept Sekera out of the lineup for the first few months of the season, but it’s pretty clear that the veteran defender is struggling to get up to NHL speed. In 18 games this year, Sekera has just one assist.
Rattie was recalled presumably because Patrick Maroon won’t be playing tonight. Originally drafted in the second round of the 2011 draft by the St. Louis Blues, Rattie has played 35 career NHL games with Carolina and St. Louis and has scored four goals and 10 points. In 49 games with the Bakersfield Condors, Rattie has 20 goals and 19 assists, leading the team in both categories.
