The Edmonton Oilers will be looking to extend their narrow lead atop the Pacific Division standings on Thursday night when they host the injury-ravaged Colorado Avalanche as -148 betting favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton is coming off a disappointing 6-3 loss in San Jose on Tuesday night but still maintains a small lead in the division going into Thursday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.

Avalanche at Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Oilers have exceeded expectations with their continued presence atop the Pacific Division standings as the NHL season passes the 20-game mark. After finishing the past two seasons with a losing record, Edmonton opened the current campaign as a lengthy +1200 bet on the divisional odds. However, they currently trail only Vegas with +375 odds at sports betting sites to claim the Pacific Division title.
The Oilers, though, have been far from dominant of late, posting wins in just five of their past 12 contests, including a middling 2-2-1 record on home ice. The club has continued to get sporadic offensive production, scoring three or fewer goals in nine of 13 outings, and just 10 total goals over their past four home dates, according to the OddsShark NHL Database.
The Oilers have also endured a lengthy struggle when facing opponents from the Central Division. With last week’s 5-2 loss to the visiting St. Louis Blues as -140 home chalk, Edmonton has now lost 12 of its last 13 games against Central Division opponents, scoring just 10 total goals in five straight home losses.
That challenge continues against the Avalanche. The Avs opened a five-game road trip with a decisive 4-0 win in Winnipeg as a -105 bet on Tuesday night, extending their current win streak to three games. Colorado has dominated during its current surge, outscoring opponents by a 17-6 margin despite being shorthanded by a rash of injuries to key personnel.
In addition to sniper Mikko Rantanen, who remains sidelined indefinitely with an ankle injury, the Avalanche have also had to make do without the services of injured captain Gabriel Landeskog, goalies Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz, and defenceman Nikita Zadorov.
Despite those setbacks, the Avalanche have managed to maintain control over second place in the Central Division, and have been steady producers on the road, going 5-3-1 in nine games away from Pepsi Center this season.
