Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while also offering my takes on anything else that’s going on in the world.
To kick off this week’s segment, we got started with a conversation about the end of Game 1 and specifically the penalty that was taken by Vinny Desharnais in overtime. As much as I’m biased and 100% a homer, I disagreed with the people that didn’t think it was actually a penalty. The bigger problem, for me, was the laundry list of mistakes the Oilers made in the third period that led to the collapse. Sure, losing in OT was tough but watching the Oilers cough up their lead with avoidable gaffs was way worse. From there, we looked around the NHL at some of the other series that kicked off this week, including another disastrous evening by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Even though I still think that the Leafs will be fine against Tampa Bay, it’s hard to imagine that anyone in Leafs Nation is feeling overly confident after last night. Coming back to Edmonton, we finished up the segment with a look at Game 2 and what the Oilers need to do better to make sure this series gets tied up. We also touched on the chatter from some folks outside of Edmonton that suggested Connor McDavid had a bad night in Game 1 just because he was held off the scoresheet, but as we know, it’s basically impossible to keep the guy quiet for long.
