Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while offering my takes on anything else that’s happening in the world.
Kicking off this week’s segment, we started with the Oilers’ six-game winning streak and how the team is playing some fantastic hockey at the moment, including last night’s 5-2 win over the Flyers. Of course, winning 14 of their last 17 games would probably have you thinking that the Oilers were right back in the playoff picture, but that’s simply not the case yet. Even with all of this success, the Oilers are still one point out of a wildcard spot and six points out of third place in the Pacific Division. Needless to say, that early season hole Edmonton put themselves in is a real problem. Changing to a more positive note, Connor McDavid put on another clinic last night against the Flyers as his five-point night saw him not only hit the 900-point plateau but actually sail past it. But even though Connor McDavid put on a show and became the fifth-fastest player to reach 900 points, a lot of people were talking about Wayne Gretzky getting to that number in only 385 games. When Sportsnet first showed that graphic during last night’s game, my brain almost turned to mush, as scoring that many points seems like pure fiction at this point. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s segment with a look at Warren Foegele and how his play has really elevated over the last few weeks after being given a bump into the top six.
