Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while offering my takes on anything else that’s happening in the world.
Kicking off this week’s segment, we started with a look at last night’s win over the Chicago Blackhawks, and specifically how it was one of the uglier Oilers wins you will ever see. The most important part of the night was that the boys managed to get the job done, but it didn’t look like it was going to be that way for much of the game. Over the course of the final 40 minutes, the Oilers mustered only seven shots against what was basically an AHL roster and squeaking out the 2-1 win was a little too close for comfort. Changing gears to something a little more positive, we then looked at the incredible season Zach Hyman is having and how he’s turning into the best UFA signing in Oilers history. Even in our wildest dreams, I doubt anyone would have expected Hyman to make such a massive impact in Edmonton despite knowing he was a good player. We just didn’t know he was this good. At the other end of the spectrum lies Connor Brown, who is still searching for his first goal with the Oilers. At this point, the Brown story is bumming out. He is a much better hockey player than the three assists he has on the board, but it’s getting to the point of wondering whether he’s going to get the job done at all. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s segment with a look at the William Nylander contract and what that means for Draisaitl and McDavid, who will both need new deals in the coming years. Spoiler: It’s going to get expensive.
