The Edmonton Oilers hope to rebound from a stunning 6-4 loss in the opening game of their Western Conference qualifying series with the Chicago Blackhawks when they hit the ice on Monday for Game 2 set as -140 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton came out flat in its first taste of playoff action in three years, surrendering four goals in the first 13 minutes of Saturday’s contest, and has now fallen to defeat in three of its past four home playoff contests going into Monday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.

Listed as -175 favourites on the NHL playoff series prices entering Game 1, the Oilers now look to Monday’s clash with their backs to the wall. The No. 5 seeds in the Western Conference received little support between the pipes, with Mike Smith surrendering five goals on 23 shots before getting replaced by Mikko Koskinen early in the second period.
Koskinen turned in a steady performance in relief, stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced, and is widely expected to make his first-ever playoff start on Monday. The 32-year-old Finn has produced solid numbers in his four career games against Chicago, surrendering just three total goals over three relief appearances, and making 40 saves in his lone career start against the Blackhawks, a 4-0 shutout victory back in November 2018.
While the club struggled early on, the Oilers offence performed largely as expected. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl tallied three points each, and combined to contribute two of Edmonton’s three power play goals. While the Oilers’ offensive outburst proved to be too little too late, it remained welcome after the club scored just 13 total goals over its five final regular season outings.
Riding high after ending a five-game losing streak in playoff action, the Blackhawks hit the ice for Game 2 set as +120 underdogs at sports betting sites. With their Game 1 victory, the Blackhawks maintained their high-scoring ways from late in the regular season, which they ended on a 5-3-0 run while averaging 3.75 goals per game.
Rookie Dominik Kubalik powered the Chicago attack with five points, fueling a steady run for the OVER in totals betting, which has prevailed in six of the Blackhawks’ past nine games overall, and in five of six road meetings with Edmonton. Despite that trend, the odds of the total in Monday’s contest going UNDER 6.5 remain set at +105.
