The Bakersfield Condors have announced that the Edmonton Oilers have called up Brad Malone on an emergency basis.
It’s early moments from the release of the news and therefore we have no confirmation on the “emergency” situation. I am left to only assume that the injury to winger Zack Kassian against the Panthers, where he was hit into the boards awkwardly, (and JJ Khaira subsequently fought for), could be more long term than originally thought. There also has been issues with Aberg as Cam wrote about yesterday here. No what the case, it remains to be seen if Malone will get actual playing time in Edmonton. Malone brings a lot of what Kassian does to the table, except for perhaps the fighting edge.
The call-up will mark the third time that Malone will see time with the Oilers this year. In his seven games this season he had zero points and six penalty minutes. With the Condors this season he is the fourth leading scorer on the team with a total of 30 points in 50 games.
In the same announcement, it was noted that the Oilers have re-assigned Dillon Simpson to the Condors. He did not draw into any game action in his two days with the big club.
