Capilano Rehab Centre Injury Report – April 5, 2016

Is there anyone else that can get injured in this last week? Unfortunately, my wish from last week’s injury report of the remainder of the team getting injured just for funzies didn’t come true. What we learned is that when you want the Oilers to be injured, and nothing is on the line, injuries don’t happen. When we are still in a playoff push and everything matters, we need to order foam rollers and arm braces in bulk from Costco.
For once, I actually have some good injury news instead of bad news (Which doesn’t make it any fun for me at this point in the season). Ryan Nugent-Hopkins returned from a minor concussion and played in what might have been the worst ever Battle of Alberta on Saturday night. I think he just needed a couple good nights of sleeps under his belt to feel better. Poor guy is probably tired after this long season!
Adam Pardy ALSO returned to the lineup against Calgary, this past weekend. Pardy was out with a hand injury for quite some time. See that? We’re almost on our way to a healthy team! But actually? This season sucked for injuries, and I hated it. If Pardy and Nuge wouldn’t have recovered so quickly maybe they wouldn’t have had to participate in the bag skate after that horrific Flames game. I think they need to prioritize things better. On the positive side, now they’ll be able to play in the final Rexall Place game, which will be much better, win or lose, than watching from the press-box. On a negative note, the following guys WILL be watching the last game at Rexall Place from the press-box.

Oscar Klefbom will not be returning this year (obviously), but it does look like he will be back without any trace of a staph infection by next season’s training camp. I suspect he will arrive at Rogers Arena on a white horse in some bright & shiny body armour with a rose in his teeth. Not only is this great news for our team but it is great news for him & his family. We’ve done some of our own research on bad staph infections, and staph infections can get bad – real bad. If what Jason Gregor says is true, it’s great news he will return next year.
Believe it or not, I am able to give an injury update on Brandon Davidson FIRST HAND, by seeing it with my OWN EYES! Davidson has been out for just under a month with a knee injury. He likely will not play for the rest of the season, BUT I was fortunate enough to see him at the downtown Safeway shopping with Laurent Brossoit, knee-brace free. Do I know if this means he’s near 100%? No. Do I know what he ate for supper on Sunday night? Hell yeah!
Andrew Ference, Benoit Pouliot and Eric Gryba are the last few who remain on the IR. Pouliot’s shoulder doesn’t work, and Andrew Ference’s hip can’t hockey. But Eric Gryba hopes to be back before the season ends. He says that the knee feels sturdy and well, it’s just a matter of building strength around it again. Only time will tell if he’ll be able to witness the final game in Rexall from ice level.
