Capilano Rehab Centre Injury Report – November 10, 2015

The worst has happened. Connor McDavid.
I’m not quite sure how to begin this injury report without breaking down into tears. We all know the devastating accident that happened last week. Connor McDavid lost an edge after doing what he does best, flying around defenders, but this time it ended with him falling backwards and awkwardly into the boards. Everyone has seen the clip I’m sure, so we might as well watch it again.
You can tell immediately that Connor was hurt. Hendricks skated back talking to him. McDavid skated with one arm on his left shoulder back to the bench with the face as if he saw a ghost. He was in shock, as was the whole league. A week has passed, and as frustrating as it is, I don’t want to talk about luck, or about the hockey gods being against us. This is the card we were dealt, and possibly the last card we will play with.
McDavid suffered a broken left clavicle and will out for an indefinite period of time, or “months” as Peter Chiarelli put it. I know we are all hoping (in secret or otherwise) that Connor will return from his long term injury and come back to win the Calder trophy, but that is not going to happen. I was thinking, though, what if McDavid returns and puts up unbelievable numbers in the last half of the season. What if he puts up an insane amount of points for the number of games he played, but still doesn’t top Max Domi, or whoever the scoring leader will be. Would they give him the Calder? Probably not, but I will continue to dream.
Twitter had to be the most depressing place to go after McDavid got injured. But next to Oilersnation.com, it is the best place to vent; and vent we did.
You may be hearing rumours that I jinked McDavid and caused him to get injured. Sure, I will admit that a month ago I said that the injury report needed more McDavid. However that is not what I meant and I stand by what I said!

NON-MCDAVID OILER INJURIES

What the hell Hendricks? Everything was going so well for you and now you’re sidelined again. Hendricks sat out against Pittsburgh for undisclosed reasons. He had just came off the IR with an ankle injury after blocking a shot, scored a goal in his first game back, and is sitting out again! The only acceptable excuse I will accept is that they are prepping him for a clavicle exchange surgery with Connor McDavid.
Justin Schultz, Rob Klinkhammer, and Lauri Korpikoski are all still out of the lineup and on the IR from the past two weeks. Schultz has missed six games so far with a back injury and will remain on the IR for approximately 1-2 more weeks. Klinkhammer and Korpikosi remain on the IR with undisclosed injuries. Laurie Korpikoski has missed five games so far after recieving a high hit from Matt Dumba a couple weeks ago and does not have a return date yet. Same goes with Rob Klinkhammer who also left the Minnesota game early with an apparent knee injury. No return date is set for him either.
Good news however, by the time you finished reading this article, we are that much closer to McDavid’s return date. We can do it!
