Capilano Rehab Centre Injury Report – September 29, 2015

The Oilers doctors have been busy this week as there are a handful of injuries in the Oilers system. Many of those belong to Oiler prospects, and for a prospect trying to make the cut, now is the worst time to get hurt. An injury was also sustained inside the walls of Nation HQ. Read more about it below!
Mitch Moroz is still on the sidelines from the hand injury a couple weeks ago. He skated with the team this morning but is not expected to play in the near future. Martin Gernat is another prospect who is trying to make the big leagues but has struggled with injuries. Gernat received off season knee surgery and could be riding the pine for a while to come. Iiro Pakarinen is also labelled day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Pakarinen struggled with a reoccurring knee injury last season. Maybe it’s that same knee that was bothering him? Who am I to decide. Our final prospect injury to report belongs to Dillon Simpson. Once again the injury is undisclosed by the team but Simpson is listed as day-to-day and should hopefully be able to start in Bakersfield. On a positive note, all four players were skating this morning.
You can’t help but feel for these rookies who are trying to crack the lineup. All they want to do is show off what they’ve got and make the team, but can’t seem to stay off the IR. As of now, Gernatt, Simpson, Moroz, and Pakarinen are all still on the Oilers NHL roster. Once they are healthy enough they will all sure be sent down to Bakersfield. If I were them I would be making pretend phone calls with a stack of my NHL cash. Don’t we wish we could all live the press box life on an NHL salary.
Luke Gazdic did not skate on Monday for the first time since camp started for undisclosed reasons. He is back skating this morning but is not in the lineup tonight. There is some speculation that he got injured during his fight with Folin on the weekend but the Oilers will obviously not make a big deal of it. Since he is skating today I imagine that he will be ready to go for the season opener next week. (Cough cough, buy tickets to the Nation’s season opener party at the Pint next week. They are selling quickly, so don’t wait!)
Teddy Purcell has also been injured for over a week now with an undisclosed injury. Jim Matheson revealed via his Twitter account that Purcell may have suffered a groin injury but the Oilers remain very hush hush. Jim is probably right, but there is a small chance that Purcell hurt himself while eating breakfast. You think I’m joking but it can happen to anyone. The good news is that he was skating this morning with the group, however if he is not healthy enough by the season opener (By the way, awesome swag bags will be given away at our season opener party including a signed McDavid jersey door prize!), somebody from the AHL (Slepyshev?) will scoop up his spot.

NATION UPDATES…

In other injury news, Jeanshorts himself received a back injury at Oilersnation Headquarters today. I wanted to pull a Chiarelli on you guys and label it as undisclosed, but what kind of Intern would i be if I didn’t spread rumours about my co-workers! Jeanshorts allegedly stated that the injury was something something about a vertebrae. I don’t know 100%, I wasn’t really listening to him. As a seasoned veteran of Operation, I am 110% confident that the reasoning behind this injury is related to age. “He’s not getting any younger” – Anonymous.  So far he has tried to stretch his back over a couch, but Baggedmilk and I are pretty doubtful of this physio method. His back injury is day-to-day and I’ve changed his workload to light duty. Oddly enough he is doing the same amount of workload as before.
