It’s summer time! You know what that means? It’s time to grab your friends, some cold ones, and sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Where better to do that than the baseball diamond?
This is an important time for the Edmonton Prospects and baseball in Edmonton as it could be the final season at RE/MAX Field. The Prospects are trying to prove that people want baseball in the heart of Edmonton’s river valley.
RE/MAX Field, formerly known as Telus Field, was opened in 1995 as a home for the Triple-A Edmonton Trappers of the Pacific Coast League. After the Trappers left the city in 2004, Edmonton has seen the Cracker Cats/Capitals of the North American League and the Prospects of the Western Major Baseball collegiate development League occupy the stadium.
Speaking as somebody who frequented Trappers game as a young child growing up, watching baseball in this location is absolutely incredible. One of the best things about living in this city is the green space and river valley, whether it’s walking trails, playing slo-pitch at Kinsmen, or sitting on a patio on Whyte Ave. Watching baseball with a beer in your hand in heart of the river valley creates an incredible ambiance you can’t really get anywhere else in the city.
The team has beefed up its fan experience, offering improved food options from Drift Food Truck, Panda Hut Express, River City Cookie, Taste Buds Fusion Kitchen, and improved drink options in the form of the Prospects Pit Party Area with $5 beers. The team itself is also back-to-back Western Division Champions and they’re looking to defend that title.
So come out and support the Prospects this summer! Prove to the city that baseball in the river valley is something that Edmontonians value and want to continue into the future.
