Nation HQ is open for the first time after the holidays and let me tell you, there’s a stink in the air that I can’t help to blame on the Oilers. If you’re looking to upset anybody at all today, just start a conversation with them about the Oilers current losing streak and you’ll be on your way. Thankfully, not all is doom and gloom here in Edmonton as Connor McDavid was just named the third star of the month by the NHL!
I don’t know where we would all be in our lives if Connor McDavid wasn’t an Oiler. My guess is clinical depression for everybody. The only reason we’re not at the bottom of the standings right now is due to the play from Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Leon Draisaitl. They are the only three forwards on the team that are scoring goals, and Connor McDavid was rewarded for it today.
In the month of December, Connor McDavid put up eight goals and 24 points in 13 games. He currently has 58 points in total this season and is just seven points behind the leader, Nikita Kucherov. Remember last year how Connor was somewhere around 10 points behind Kucherov in the final stretch of the season and ended up blowing him out of the water? Well, I’m expecting the same thing to happen this year.
Currently, Connor is on pace for a career-high, 45 goals, 79 assists, and 124 points this season. He continues to be the most exciting aspect of the league and I hope he stays an Oiler forever. Congrats on earning your third star of the month award Connor, I love you.
