It appears that a new voice will be helping to call @Edmonton Oilers games next season.
Country music star and fan of the Oilers Brett Kissel will be joining the broadcast booth as a colour commentator for all Oilers home games next season. While currently residing in Nashville, Kissel will be travelling to Edmonton to do his part in helping call the games.
Kissel is no stranger to the Edmonton Oilers. A native of Flat Lake, Alta., Kissel grew up a fan of the club and has sung the anthems at the games before.
In terms of broadcasting experience, Kissel didn’t fool anyone with his performance during a March 2nd where he joined Kevin Quinn and Remenda in the booth when the Oilers visited Nashville. Kissel chimed in with some colour commentary and even joined Gene Principe during the intermission, much like Remenda normally would.
Sources say that this was done on purpose in order to give Kissel a test run of sorts in the role. While there was some online backlash, executive sources say there was a feeling Kissel would be a welcome new addition.
When reached for comment, Kissel said April 1st was the perfect day to announce the news.
“I’m really excited to be taking part in the broadcasts next season,” Kissel said. “I’ve greatly appreciated the work that hockey broadcasters do and I’m grateful to have had such a successful first shot at this.
“I’m looking forward to bringing my knowledge of the game to Oilers fans around the globe.”
Of course, only a FOOL would believe this. It was worth a try, right? We just thought everyone might need a laugh today.
