Last night, Sportsnet aired Game 5 from the Oilers’ playoff series against the Sharks from 2017 and a lot of us got chills from being able to watch the boys do their thing in an outstanding environment at Rogers Place. This morning, Dave Randorf posted a video of Connor McDavid’s first playoff goal from that magical spring as was seen from the press box, and I’ve gotta say, it was pretty cool.
Now, I know what you guys are thinking, did this tweet really merit a quick hit on the website? Of course, the answer is yes. Why? Well, seeing as we don’t have any hockey to watch right now, reliving some of the best moments from the past is all we’ve got to fill the void and scratch the ever-growing itch. Not only that, we fans don’t often get to see what the view from the press box looks like and I thought that watching @Connor McDavid’s first ever playoff goal from Randorf’s vantage point was kinda cool. His reaction to the goal was fun, Rogers Place was going bananas, the guy at the end giving the thumbs up made me laugh, and it was a legitimately cool moment captured on film.
Not only was the goal/angle pretty cool, but this video also provided me with yet another reminder of how crazy this city goes for the playoffs and how no other fanbase deserves moments like this more than Oilers fans. We’ve seen some shit in our day, haven’t we? The downside, of course, is that the video also made me miss hockey on a very deep level, remembering full well that we were only weeks away from having this kind of insanity overtake Rogers Place once again before the NHL was forced to suspend the season. Then again, if we’re thinking positively, when the NHL is able to safely come back, Oilers fans are going to go ballistic and I, for one, am looking forward to it.
