Dave Tippett got three Jack Adams Award votes

The NHL announced that Rod Brind’Amour won the 2021 Jack Adams Award for the league’s best coach on Thursday.

Brind’Amour won by a wide margin, receiving 61 first-place votes out of the 129 ballots cast. In second and third were Dean Evason and Joel Quenneville, who helped the Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers to much better seasons in 2021 than they had in 2019-20.

Going down the list, you’ll find Edmonton’s Dave Tippett, who finished 13th in voting, tied with Bruce Cassidy of the Boston Bruins and David Quinn, who was recently fired by the New York Rangers. Tippett received three third-place votes.

Here’s how the voting shook out…

Given the Oilers finished 11th in the league, slightly worse than their ninth-place finish in 2019-20, in a division viewed by many as the weakest in the league, it isn’t a surprise that Tippett didn’t get much love for the Jack Adams this year.

Last season, Tippett finished fourth in Jack Adams voting and received one first-place vote. Alain Vigneault of the Flyers was the winner, while Mike Sullivan and John Tortorella finished second and third. Tippett won the Jack Adams back in 2009-10 after he coached the Coyotes to a 50-25-7 season.
