According to TSN insider, Pierre LeBrun, pending free agent winger, Pat Maroon, is generating all kinds of trade interest at the deadline with as many as seven teams reaching out to the Oilers. As LeBrun puts it, “the action has heated up.”
After Rick Nash was moved early Sunday morning, the interest in Patrick Maroon has started to pick up as the big winger has actually produced a similar output as the aforementioned Nash. A major difference, of course, is the fact that Rick Nash is a known commodity whereas Pat Maroon’s increased production is relatively new. Also, Maroon has benefitted largely from playing alongside Connor McDavid, a luxury that inquiring teams are sure to use in an attempt to lower the asking price.
In 57 games played this season, Patrick Maroon has put up 30 points (14G, 16A) and has a Corsi For rating of 54 per cent. At a $2 million cap hit, the big winger will be one of the most valuable trading chips for Peter Chiarelli and the Oilers ahead of Monday’s deadline. If LeBrun’s reporting is accurate, and there’s no reason to suspect that it’s not, then the big winger who was once acquired for Martin Gernat and a fourth-round pick could fetch a tidy sum.
Which teams could be linked to Maroon? A quick Twitter search on the topic puts teams Winnipeg, Boston, and Toronto could be possible destinations.
