There’s no place like home and the Edmonton Oilers are cementing that idea with a little home decorating on the ice of Rogers Place.
On Wednesday, the team shared on social media that they’ve added oil drops down the center line and between the on-ice logo.
In the past, the Oilers would use different shapes like a diamond, or inside Rexall Place, they used a triangular box on the center line. This seems to be a new trend among NHL teams as the Calgary Flames also added a unique design to theirs by adding the teams’ crest through the middle of the red center line.
Oilers fans in general seem to be in love with the small addition and feel like it’s a good omen for the 2023-2024 season. Multiple comments on the Oilersnation Instagram post of the oil drops say “This is our year” or “That’s pretty cool, next up 2023-24 Stanley Cup Champions.”
It’s the small things that can get fans who are eagerly awaiting for the new season to begin fired up.
The Oilers are set to return to Edmonton on September 5th for the captain’s skate. Connor McDavid in a recent interview with Sportsnet’s Mark Spector mentioned they wanted to be “a little bit more organized in our Captain’s skates. Just to make sure that it’s a productive month and we can hit the ground running.”
McDavid says that it was a group decision for the players to return earlier than usual from the off-season, not just one guy telling everyone to do something. The team’s desire to win the Stanley Cup and bounce back from an early playoff exit last season is at an all-time high. Leon Draisaitl said it best, “it’s Cup or bust”.
That feeling is mutual between the fans and players. There’s no better opportunity than right now for this team to deliver a Stanley Cup and parade with it over the oil drops that now present themselves inside Rogers Place on the center red-line.
