The Edmonton Oilers will be making their retro jersey debut tonight against the L.A Kings. The 1981 to 1994 styled Royal Blue jerseys will be worn three more times this season against the Calgary Flames (Dec. 9), the Winnipeg Jets on New Year’s Eve, and the Vancouver Canucks (March 7). These games will all be held at Rogers Place.
Lots of fans are upset because the jerseys are just about the exact same as the ones they wore from 2008 to 2017. The only difference between the jerseys is that in the neck line it says “Once an Oiler, Always an Oiler” and the shoulder pads have the new jersey touch with the shoulder dots. I see where these fans are coming from, out of all of the old jerseys they could have picked from they picked the ones we seen a few years ago. On the other hand, how good will McDavid look with them on? Will the old timers think that he looks a lot like Gretzky when he wore them in 1981?
I have mixed opinions with the retro jersey, personally I wish they went with their meteorite third jersey from 2001-2007. The time we had Ryan Smyth, Mike Comrie, and Anson Carter as the point leaders in 01′.
Have you bought a retro jersey? Do you like them? Let me know in the comments.
