With their sixth and final pick at the 2019 NHL Draft, the Edmonton Oilers selected centreman, Maxim Denezhkin, at 193rd overall.
At 5’9″ and 165 pounds, Maxim Denezhkin is easily the smallest prospect chosen by the Edmonton Oilers this weekend. The left-handed native of Yaroslav, Russia, is said to be a playmaking centre with a decent shot and willingness to get to the tough areas, which led him to be one of the top scorers on Russia’s best junior team. As you’ll see in the scouting report below, Denezhkin is said to have plenty of intangibles that teams like, including a strong work ethic at both ends of the rink and willingness to do whatever it takes to win. From the scouting reports I could find, Denezhkin does have some offensive touch but is not a flashy player, and tends to generate most of his opportunities from the tough areas of the ice.
In 51 games played with Loko Yaroslavl, Maxim Denezhkin chipped in with 22 goals and 17 assists for 39 points on his way to an MHL championship.

WHO IS MAXIM DENEZHKIN

I’m not going to lie to you guys, finding any relevant information about a seventh round pick is all kinds of challenging but I did what I could to try and score anything at all.
From The Athletic’s Corey Pronman:
Denezhkin was one of the top players and leading scorer for the best junior team in Russia. He’s a versatile forward, and has the skill and hockey sense to create offense. He’s a very good passer and finisher who scores with his above-average shot but also by attacking the net hard. His compete level shows at both ends of the rink, as he can make stops and kill penalties. His offensive game with the puck won’t dazzle, but he has good hands and can feather pucks through seams. While he’s not a bad skater, he has some speed and is balanced on his skates; but he isn’t a blazer and his stride isn’t technically ideal. Scouts talk highly about Denezhkin’s character/off-ice work ethic, so it’s possible he improves that area down the line.
From The Hockey Writers:
Little Guy listed at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, emerged as the MHL playoff hero by scoring the lone goal in his team’s 1-0 championship victory. Some scouts see Denezhkin in the same range as fellow Russian forwards Sheshin, Gritsyuk and Chinakhov — all of whom could be mid-round picks.
