Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl hits 50-goal mark, 100-point mark

Leon Draisaitl is once again a 50-goal scorer.

He scored the goal Sunday night in a 6-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Despite being banged up earlier in the game, he struck it out and late in the third period, was able to find the back of the net.

Not only did he hit the 50-goal mark, he also notched his 100th point of the season. That came when he got an assist on a third-period goal scored by Brett Kulak.

This season has been another great one for Draisaitl and the start of his season was a big reason why he was able to hit the mark. He started off at a torrid pace scoring 20 goals in his first 19 games of the season as talks of him scoring 50-in-50-games started to crop up.

On top of that, he was also the first player to hit the 50 point mark of the season.

For Draisaitl, however, this season is another one for the books. It marks the second time in his eight-year career that he’s hit the 50-goal mark and the first time he did it since the 2018-19 season when he scored exactly 50.

He’s now become the 47th player in NHL history to hit the 50-goal mark twice in his career and if in the future he’s able to do it again, he would become one of 21 to do it three times.

On top of that, hitting the 50-goal mark makes it the 17th time a member of the Edmonton Oilers has scored 50 times in a season — a league-leading mark. Wayne Gretzky did it eight times, Jari Kurri did it four times, while Glenn Anderson and Mark Messier have hit the mark twice, now with Draisaitl joining them.
