Edmonton Oilers Full Schedule Details

The draft is upon us and it’s a great time of the year if you’re a fan of a team that missed the playoffs and haven’t had much to talk about for the better part of three months. Every year around the draft a couple of major announcements happen and two of those occurred today with the announcement of the new salary cap numbers and the release of the full NHL schedule.

The Edmonton Oilers will play a full 82 game schedule with 41 home and away games. A strange thing to have to write, but it’s a reminder that the season opener against the Devils on October 6th at 11:00 am Mountain time will be an away game for the Oil with the Devils being listed as the “home team”.

After opening the season against New Jersey in Sweden, the Oilers will be playing games in Boston (October 11), New York R (October 13), and then Winnipeg (October 16) before returning home for yesterday’s announced home opener against the Bruins on October 18th.

Let’s have a look at some of the matchups/dates of note for the season: (all times are listed in MOUNTAIN TIME)

After starting the season against the Flames the last two years, the Battle of Alberta will be starting much later this year, not playing until November 17th in Calgary. The two provincial rivals will clash two more times (Sun December 9th and Sat Jan 19th in Edmonton) before they close out the year against their Alberta foe in Calgary on April 6th.

Every year it happens, and every year it’s hilarious infuriating interesting to watch as the Leafs and Canadiens fans flock to see their team’s one performance a year in western cities and talk about how great it is that they outnumber us. This year’s invasion is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13th against Montreal and Saturday, March 9th against Toronto.

Whenever the Penguins come to town the comparisons can be made of the two best players in the game, Sidney and Connor. The Oilers will play the Pens twice this year, hosting Pittsburgh on October 23rd at 7:00 pm and then venturing into the PPG Arena for a Wednesday night tilt on February 13th at 6:00 pm.

The man who will forever be picked after Connor, Jack Eichel and the Sabres newest shiny first overall pick of Rasmus Dahlin will be visiting January 14th at 7:00 pm with the Oilers playing in Buffalo Monday March 4th at 5:00 pm.

The Oilers will host the Western Conference champions on November 18th and December 1st with their two games in Vegas (surely to be the most travelled to games by Oilers fans once again) will be much awaited again this year coming on March 17th and April 1st.

The Oilers will continue the “tradition” of ringing in the New Year with hockey as they will host the Winnipeg Jets again this Monday, December 29th at 7:00 pm.

The season opener being that it is in Germany will be starting at 11:00 am mountain time, meaning we will be getting good and greased mid-day. The Oilers having eight total games this year that will start before 5pm MT, Two of those coming on home ice (Saturday, December 29th 2:00 pm and Saturday, March 23rd, 2:00 pm)

The Oilers will have a total of nineteen Saturday games this year, with eleven of those coming to you live from the cosy confines of Rogers Place.

Seven games fall into the Sunday time slot with four of those coming at home.

That’s the schedule. With ten total back-to-back games, the “worst” looking of those has to be the trip between Philly and Montreal February 2nd and 3rd with both games being matinees. The longest homestand for the Oil comes over the Christmas break with five games at Rogers Place from December 18th to 31st. Their longest road trip will be the five games played between February 25th to March 4th with stops ranging in order from Nashville, Toronto, Ottawa, Columbus and Boston.
