The junior hockey season is coming to a close with all three leagues in the CHL down to two remaining.
The Edmonton Oil Kings face the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL while Hamilton and Windsor go head-to-head in the OHL. Then, out in the QMJHL, Shawinigan takes on the Charlottetown Islanders.
I’ll also check in on the news that came out of Bakersfield today involving the goaltending depth chart.

Last Man Standing

Xavier Bourgault is the final Oilers prospect playing in the postseason as the Shawinigan Cataractes prepare for the QMJHL Final. Shawinigan is taking on the Charlottetown Islanders, who finished 2nd during the regular season with 48 wins.
In the semi-finals versus Quebec, Shawinigan came back from 2-1 down to win the series 3-2. Bourgault finished the series with two points and had the overtime winner in game two.

Petrov’s Season Concludes

Matvey Petrov’s rookie season in North America came to an end over the weekend after Hamilton completed the sweep over North Bay.
Petrov finished with two goals and ten points in 13 playoff games. He had a six-game point streak at one point, but couldn’t score at the rate he did during the regular season. The Oilers’ prospect finished the season with a remarkable 40 goals and 93 points in 60 games.

Konovalov to Russia?

Reports are coming out of Russia that Ilya Konovalov is heading back to his home country next season. The general manager of Dynamo Moscow said in an interview that he fully expects Konovalov to join his team next season and that his contract with the Edmonton Oilers will be terminated. The report said that Konovalov is already back in Russia.
In the system, the Oilers would still have Ryan Fanti, Olivier Rodrigue, and @Stuart Skinner under contract.
