Friday Fights: Don’t Defend Clean Hits

Hello out there, I’m on the air, it’s Hockey Fights today. This is a weekly feature where we will take a look back at the best tilts of the week that was, a fond look back at the fights that were, and a strong finger wag at the worst fight of the week.
I was one to think that as we head towards the end of the season and teams are fighting for playoff spots, the passion was going to be amplified. Sadly we haven’t seen an uptick in the volume of fights. This week saw only 12 fights, about par for the course for the whole year. The quality of the fights according to our ratings by users has been on the rise, with just a few dipping below that 4.0 mark.
This week we have a couple of high-sticks causing a ruckus and the first-responder getting pummeled.
Onto the top tilts.

No. 3:

T.J. Oshie vs Travis Konecny

Failed to load video.

Konecny took a high-stick to the face with no call. You can understand why he would be willing to just punch anything that moves. Sadly for him that was TJ Oshie. After getting knocked down by Oshie, ol’ Travis was going to have no more of that.

No. 2:

Greg Pateryn vs Mark Borowiecki

Failed to load video.

Borowiecki channeled his inner Tay Tay in this one. “Look what you made me do” is his theme some here. A nice clean hit on Pitlick leads to Greg Pateryn steps in and gets beat down, for honor?

No. 1:

Alex Petrovic vs Michael McCarron

Failed to load video.

Luongo gets a high stick and Petrovic comes in to defend his honor. (Do you sense a theme here?) Jab, jab, jab, jab, McCarron over the top.

Classic Fight of the Week:

Bob Boughner vs Alek Stojanov

Finger Wag of the Week:

This is where we normally feature the one fight that probably deserved two minutes for occurring, rather than a major. Or a player that needs to be put on blast

Derrick Pouliot vs Andreas Martinsen

Failed to load video.

When I first saw this hit, I thought to myself, damn that’s dirty. But if you watch the replay he just guides the guy to the boards really. Pouliot comes in guns ablazing and seconds later he is on his back looking a little like a five year old who didn’t get his way.

So that’s the fights that were the fights. What say you citizens of the Nation? Did you like my picks? Did I miss a fight you thought was better or worse? Do you have a suggestion for the classic fight you want to see next week? Hit me up on twitter @TheNationDan or send it in the comments below.
