Friday Fights: Ahh, I’m also going to need you to go ahead and fight some more?

6 years agoHello out there, I’m on the air, it’s Hockey Fights today. This is a weekly feature where we will take a look back at the best tilts of the week that was, a fond look back at the fights that were, and a strong finger wag at the worst fight of the week.
With 11 fights coming across the pages at hockeyfights.com week 17 is in the books. A busy weekend followed by a painfully slow business week means we stay on the average pace for the year.
In this installment we have the battle of the middleweights, another King gets knocked down, and the league is called to task.

No. 3:
Cody McLeod vs Matt Hendricks

Two of the toughest guys in the league. Hendricks gets busted wide open right away.
No. 2:
Andy Andreoff vs Micheal Haley

Another week and another King getting buckled at the knees from a fight.
No. 1:
Ryan Lomberg vs Ross Johnston
Failed to load video.
Ryan Lomberg goes out of his weight class in an attempt to stick up for a teammate within that weight class. He gets absolutely demolished by the much bigger Johnston.Win Johnston and TKO.Again, still unsure about how good this Johnston kid actually is.

This is where we normally feature the one fight that probably deserved two minutes for occurring, rather than a major. Or a player that needs to be put on blast
The league in general
Hockey is a different animal than any of the other pro leagues. Just this past weekend we watched the New England Patriots lose their top guy in the league to what was a completely legal hit.
So it’s not against the rules? How does that help the Pats get through losing their best WR? In hockey, that would have been a simple fight that needed to happen. This week, we watch Burrows absolutely take out the best Devil on the ice, in Taylor Hall. Not one player tried to stop Burrows. He got his suspension. But at the end of the day, fighting is the way you stop goomba tactics like what Burrows did. As the league tries to kill fighting. The teams become complacent with the changes and we see an uptick in these maulings. Sad.
