Friday Fights: Quality Plummeting

Hello out there, I’m on the air, it’s Hockey Fights today. This is a weekly feature where we will take a look back at the best tilts of the week that was, a fond look back at the fights that were, and a strong finger wag at the worst fight of the week.
It’s been an up and down season week by week in recent times. Two weeks ago we had only six fights, and then last week we were brought back up with thirteen total bouts. Things seem to have stabilized a bit with eleven this week. As has been the case for most of the year, we still sit below the 300 total fights projected mark for the year. The general quality of the fights based on our rating system over at hockeyfights, shows a great decline this week as well. Of the eleven, only one (Martin vs Beaulieu) breaking any higher than a 4.6 out of 10.
This week we see one great face punching smashfest and two really bad top fights.
Onto the top tilts.

No. 3:

Ross Johnston vs Garnet Hathaway

Ross Johnston, noted Flame beater gets the best of another Flame this year (he has only fought Flames in the NHL).

No. 2:

Jason Dickinson vs Nicolas Deslauriers

Save for a couple of big tossed (not landed) bombs in this one, not really what you would hope for from a #2 fight of the week. It’s just a sign of the times. I guess.

No. 1:

Matt Martin vs Nathan Beaulieu

This fight caused a bit of a stir on the HF social channels. People were quite upset it got a 7.1 out of 10 on hockeyfights for quality. I am not going to sit here and pretend that it was the best fight of the year but I am all about these guys just going for it. Blocking punches with their face and doing everything they could to get the other guy down. Respect to Beaulieu for buckling the knees of one of the league’s tougher guys in Martin.

Classic Fight of the Week:

Craig Coxe vs Jeff Chychrun

Finger Wag of the Week:

This is where we normally feature the one fight that probably deserved two minutes for occurring, rather than a major. Or a player that needs to be put on blast

John Hayden vs Sean Kuraly

Failed to load video.

Everything about this fight was strange. From wire to wire. Hayden gets hit, barely, as he heads to the bench and then grabs a hold of someone else to fight. Well that was what was supposed to happen. Instead you get two guys flailing and falling down.
Bad. Just bad.
