Friday Fights: Tough Young Men

Hello out there, I’m on the air, it’s Hockey Fights today. This is a weekly feature where we will take a look back at the best tilts of the week that was, a fond look back at the fights that were, and a strong finger wag at the worst fight of the week.
Last week we saw the lowest totals in fights in a week this season with six. This week however, the number has climbed back up to a more respectable thirteen fights. The season projection remains below that seemingly elusive, 300 fight mark. As playoff battles heat up and the NHL’s referees continue to seemingly be not sure what is and isn’t a penalty, we hope the fights will follow.
This week we will see a couple of young NHLers coming into their own, Brendan Shannahan, and a Flame and a Ranger flailing.
Onto the top tilts.

No. 3:

Matt Hendricks vs Cody McLeod

Failed to load video.

Perhaps one of my favourite calls of a fight and the “Their wives are probably watching this together” line. Ahh, how the Oilers miss Matt Hendricks and his leadership qualities. Although they may have found a young Matt Hendricks of their own.

No. 2:

Cal Clutterbuck vs Jujhar Khaira

Failed to load video.

Clutterbuck has gained a reputation of sorts with his cheap shots over his career. Khaira witnessed another one last night on Iiro Pakarinen. He wanted to have a word with Clutterbuck. Words turned to fists and the story as old as hockey began.

No. 1:

Luke Witkowski vs Nick Seeler

Close your eyes reader. If you’re driving, I am sorry, but why are you reading this while driving? Now think back to the no defense era in fighting. Now enter rookie Nick Seeler and hockey fights favorite, Luke Witkowski.

Classic Fight of the Week:

Brendan Shanahan vs Willi Plett

Finger Wag of the Week:

This is where we normally feature the one fight that probably deserved two minutes for occurring, rather than a major. Or a player that needs to be put on blast

Chris Kreider vs Travis Hamonic

Failed to load video.

Just a weird looking fight all around. Two guys who can’t connect, swinging like they can. Then they all fall down.
If you want to see all the fights from the week, and indeed the season, you have only to visit us over at HockeyFights.com
