Future Odds: Western Conference Champions

With the start of the NHL season only a few short weeks away, the next chapter in my Future Odds series is looking at where people are putting their money when it comes to the Western Conference Champions. 

Before you can become the best, you have to navigate the gauntlet that is the rest of your respective conference. As we all know, the NHL season is a slog in every way and getting through it is a sizeable mountain to climb before even talking about what happens in the playoffs. For a team like our beloved Edmonton Oilers, however, winning the Western Conference is a necessary step on their way to bigger things, and if you truly believe that the boys are Cup contenders, then why wouldn’t we want to make a few dollars on their way to glory? It just makes sense, ya know?

Let’s check out the odds for the Western Conference Champions.

If there’s one nice thing about our boys being as good as they are right now, it’s seeing the Oilers at or near the top of the favourites board for basically everything. Even though we all know that betting odds don’t mean anything in terms of what will actually happen on the ice, I’d be lying if I said that it didn’t give me tingles in the nether regions every time I see our boys so high on any of these lists. Yeah, I know I’m biased but sometimes it’s the simple things in life that bring the most joy.

Either way, seeing that Betway is giving me the chance to 4x my money if the Oilers can wrap up the third of four steps on their way to the Stanley Cup has me feeling like putting a couple of dollars down in support of that goal is the move. Call me a homer all you want but I have absolutely been buying what the Oilers have been selling throughout the off-season, and that makes me feel like manifesting a Western Conference Champs banner with a cheeky little pre-season bet. At the very least, I’m doing my part.

Am I wrong here? I don’t think I am.
